Last night, (Friday 25 July) over the course of several hours, I had email exchanges with various members of the milblog community, including Matt Burden of Blackfive, regarding the original email.
The content, or subject matter, of the email is one Army officer's view of the events of the day.
True or not, the email itself is genuine and was sent by a member of the military.
Snopes has it listed as false, based on their investigations. However there is a final entry on the Snopes page that should be noted.
http://www.snopes.com/politics/obama/afghanistan.asp
Reading the Snopes page would leave one with the impression that the email is false, but the last few paragraphs on Snopes are the enigma.
The author of the email was contacted by Snopes.
He responded and asked that the email be removed because it was intended only for his family. (Good luck with that)
Based on that, the email itself is real.
It is the CONTENT of the email that Snopes is listing as false, not the fact that the email was sent.
When the text of the email was posted on Blackfive, Matt had removed all identifying references, including the Army officer's name, out of respect for his privacy.
When the email itself began its journey through the MAIL system, the person who forwarded it did not give the Army officer the same courtesy.
Here’s a tip for future events of this nature:
REMOVE ALL REFERENCES TO IDENTITY.
We owe the members of our military at least that much and it will hinder Snopes investigations which will result in them being unable to give a definite true or false.
(Whether that’s a good or bad thing remains to be seen.)
I will respectfully ask that you backtrack and send this back up the line to your respective email loops.

To my Brothers in Harm's Way who may be reading this:
We've got your 6.
Do not be discouraged. Do not let the bastards get to you.
They are not America. They don't speak for us. They speak for the asshats and the media.
You are always in our prayers and your efforts will NEVER be in vain as long as I can stand.

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid is still ducking Rush's challenge to come on the EIB Network, a lack of courage that speaks volumes. Reid is trying to distract the Democrat Party's anti-war base from his failure to remove us from Iraq by manufacturing a news event. Rush never, ever called anti-war soldiers "phony." He was speaking about actual men, like Jesse MacBeth and others, who faked military credentials to win the attention of anti-war groups. Rush stands in awe of those who serve regardless of their political positions. (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen Here).
Senator Harkin brought up Rush's prescription pain addiction in an attack so disgusting, it desecrated the United States Senate itself. Remember, Harkin knows a thing or two about phony soldiers: the Iowa Democrat lied about fighting in Vietnam. When he was caught, he simply "clarified." It's time someone told these liberals that they don't get to infinitely revise their remarks, and they certainly don't have the right to interpret what people like Rush mean when they speak. (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen Here).
A group called VoteVets.org took Brian McGough, an Iraq War hero, pumped him full of lies from Media Matters for America (which Hillary Clinton admits starting and supporting), and sent him out to attack Rush in an ad. This man will always be a hero to this country. The people behind this ad have used him and betrayed him.
Not all Democrats agree with Reid and Harkin, and not all Republicans have swallowed their tongues or joined the anti-Rush forces like Rep. Walter Jones (R-NC). Senators Nelson and Akaka from the Democrat side refuse to join the effort to hush Rush. Senator John Warner (R-VA) calls Rush a "patriot," recalling their association through the Marine Corps-Law Enforcement Foundation (MC-LEF).
Who really lifts the morale of our troops: phony patriots like Harry Reid or Rush Limbaugh? The mother of a soldier, veterans, active-duty soldiers in Iraq and Afghanistan, and even an anti-war radical from the 60's agree on the obvious answer.
On MSNBC, Courtney Hazlett and Joe Scarborough dare to report the real story, turning the microscope on Media Matters for America. (Rush 24/7 Members: Listen Here).
The Washington Post puts out their semi-regular polling blasting President Bush and his conduct of the Iraq War. But wait! What's this? More than half of Americans prefer President Bush's plan for victory over the Democrat plan for defeat. Could it be because the news bears out the success of the surge, with Iraqi civilian and U.S. Military deaths dropping?
